I love that we get to spend 4 months parked in one spot, playing camp host at a Bureau of Reclamation campground – yet at the same time, I also have a hard time getting used to waking up to the same view every morning. And the quietness of the campground so far this year isn’t helping with my wanting a new view! I like it better around here when it is busy, at least sometimes for a change of pace. We get used to seeing new places every couple of days when we travel fromm Sept. thru April.
Things are hopefully going to pick up this weekend as the campground is base camp for a Kids’ Walleye Fishing Tournament. 250 kids are signed up this year! If the weather is nasty, most won’t show, but even if they don’t, the campground is already gearing up for the following week.
Every year, the lake hosts a large walleye fishing tourney where teams go out on the Sat. before July 4th. Most of the fishermen camp here. Our 77 sites, 13 of which are doubles, will all be full, and we will be placing the additional rvs in overflow areas – having to come up with nearly as many temp sites as we have real ones. Since we didn’t get here until right after the 4th last year, this will be our first year hosting for the walleye tourney, tho we really won’t be much for hosts – we won’t be here!!!
Yep, we’re moving.
But just for 10 days ๐ because every year, for the past 5 years, we have run a fireworks stand – and will continue the tradition for our 6th year. It is an excellent experience for the kids, and we all enjoy it because it is such a different experience than our ‘everyday lives’. We will be pulling up jacks and moving out probably next Friday. We move our trailer to be onsite of the fireworks stand to deter theft. We all enjoy doing the stand – the big kids like to help, and the littles think that all the tv that they will get to watch that last weekend is a treat! Emma will spend the entire time asking if she can come out to the stand to help bag for people – she was pleasantly surprised when she repeatedly got tipped for bagging last year, and is hoping that it happens again this year. I love that the kids are right there all day and we can go back and forth between the ‘house’ and stand, spending much of the time together.
I guess that is one of the things that I love about RVing – we always have our house with us! To be honest, I don’t think that I would like traveling if I couldn’t take my home with me. And it’s not this rv. I really believe that if something happened to this particular trailer, I wouldn’t be upset – I wouldn’t miss it, it’s just a bunch of wood and metal, but it is the means by which our family can travel, and we would have to find a new RV right away ๐ (have you tried packing just for a week for 13 people?? – in the van we’d have to pick between taking the kids or taking the luggage!).
And speaking of 13 people – 4 of them have the flu right now. Yep, unfortunately those buckets scattered around our little livingroom aren’t for a leaky ceiling… ๐ (tho my hubby wouldn’t say that was unfortunate ๐ Sweet little (sick) Molly made mommy clean up a huge mess all over the living room carpet (gee, I might get that hardwood floor sooner than I thought), and change all the bedding on our bed at 10pm last night. Ahhh, for a washer and dryer…

I’m off to read books to my fussy little ones and to snuggle this warm, sleeping baby in my arms.
Life is Still Good, sick or not… ๐
