There she goes… and moving. again.

This past Saturday, Karl, from K & D RV Transport out of Tacoma, drove out to tow our toy hauler to the repair shop in Washington. I had talked to Karl several times on the phone, and felt very comfortable handing our ‘home’ over to him.

Karl had to reinforce the frame before he could move our 5er. He jacked up the sidewalls until they were even with the flexing steel frame, wrapped the corners with heavy duty angle iron, and ran screws through the angle iron, sidewalls, and original frame.
I asked Vaughn to take some pictures of what Karl was doing to the camper so that he could move it, and Vaughn came home with pictures of Karl’s sweet tow vehicle instead… it’s a guy thing I guess.

Karl called us later in the weekend to let us know that the trip went well and that he dropped our rig off at the repair shop Saturday night. He is the owner’s right hand man (or something – not sure of his title) at the repair shop, and he is the ultimate in customer service: he even called us last night to let us know that they would be opening up the exterior of the rv today to accurately assess the damage to the frame so that they could complete the estimate for the insurance company. We are waiting to hear what the estimate came out at so that we will know if they will be fixing or totaling our 5th wheel, but pretty sure that they will be fixing it – Karl said they have seen (and moved, and fixed) worse… :)
After the insurance company inspects the trailer with the repair shop and OKs the estimate, the shop will need our rv for at least 6 more weeks to fix it.
In the meantime, we have been staying at my sister’s cabin. It was a life saver when we didn’t know where we would go. We found out on Sunday that some company from Texas is coming up to stay in the cabin, and that we need to be out Thursday. I was a little freaked out at first – it’s not like a family of 11 can sleep in their van when they can’t find anywhere else to go…
But, we actually have options this time!!! There is a home that we can rent based on a friend’s recommendation to the owners, there is a trailer that is owned by friends that will come open at the end of the month that we can rent, we have been invited to stay with family in Arizona, and we have some dear friends with a vacant trailer that was on their property when they bought their home. Wow! We are blessed!
Arizona is so tempting – the weather is beautiful, our family is fabulous, and we wouldn’t have to ‘set up house’ for a month. Staying here has it’s draws – Greg is here, and we want to see him as much as we can before he ships out for boot camp. He leaves right around when the baby is born, and we would also be here for Vaughn’s mom, and then she would get to see the new baby…
We have decided to not make any long term plans until we get a for-sure answer on the 5er, so in the meantime, we will be moving into the trailer on our friends’ property. For 2 whole weeks: while Eli and Beth finish up their farm job in Townsend, and we decide to either head for the sunny south without our rv, or take one of the rentals for the month of Nov.
Did I mention that they have the same size family that we do???
Picture it – 2 sets of parents, 18 kids + 2 on the way ( & that doesn’t count the 4 that have already ‘flown the coop’) – why, Yes, as a matter of fact, we do vote. 😉
I think that it’s going to be the most fun time!!! The boys will spend countless hours playing airsoft (we’ll try not to shoot any of their kids’ teeth out again), the big girls will gab and giggle, try on their Civil War dresses, and play games, and the littles will be all over everywhere dragging out every toy they own. A. and Vaughn will discuss and fix all of the US’s problems (and come up with an alternative country to live in, just in case), and my kindred spirit T. and I might just actually make it out for lunch together like we have been talking about all summer (if we determine that their home will indeed survive through leaving all the kids there alone)!
well, I’m off to pack…
I’m so excited!!! :) :) :)
