We had a fabulous time enjoying our favorite Thousand Trails park (so far)! We picked lots of pecans,
and still have a Target bag full of whole pecans that need to be separated so that we can put the nutmeats in the freezer.
We parked directly across from the playground since that is the girls’ favorite part of any park that we visit. Caleb is getting big enough that he is wanting to go over there too!
Caleb gets into everything. He really enjoyed picking nuts – he would pick them out of the bowls that we put them in, and toss them as far as he could.and laugh. I’m afraid that we laughed too 😉
This park has a small activity center, with several TVs, a pool table, a laundry room, and a ping pong table. I think the park made several dollars off of us buying ping pong balls; they sell them in a dispenser that looks very like a gumball dispenser, for a quarter. The boys played lots of games…
Last year, Vaughn and I went out to dinner at Peter’s BBQ, which is just up the road a few miles from the campground. Every Friday night, Peter’s has an all-you-can eat buffet with fried catfish, sausage, brisket, chicken, ribs, and Frog Legs (there are other things too, but it if isn’t meat, it doesn’t count to us carnivores!)! It was such a fun meal, that this year I called Peter’s to find out what their rate is for kids to do the buffet… Some really nice lady answered the phone, and I asked her if kids could do the Friday night buffet; she said “sure!”, and what age the kids rate started at, to which she replied that there really wasn’t one – if they were a kid then they got the kids rate. So I then asked what the kids rate was, to which she said, “well, he doesn’t really have one. Maybe like $4.99? And then the younger ones might be $2.99, and little ones would probably be free.” LOL! I wasn’t quite sure what to think! But of course we went anyway!
Buffets for All of us, plus drinks, $84. 😀
We thought the big hit would be the frogs legs.. they weren’t…
I don’t know that anyone cared for them; it was the brisket and the ribs that the kids really enjoyed.
Except for Molly, she just wanted ice cream. soft serve with chocolate syrup. She’s easy to please 🙂
Every Saturday morning, the park has a craft fair/show at the activity center. The first weekend, we forgot about it, but the second Saturday that we were there, Eli took his paracord bracelets down, and Beth took her hair clips. Eli and Beth didn’t sell anything, but they talked with quite a few people from the park. Eli had taken his paracord supplies down to the activity center on Friday so that he could spread everything out to work, and he didn’t get a single thing done because he ended up talking with everyone so much. He didn’t mind.
While the kids didn’t sell anything that morning, one of our neighbors came over later that day and bought a clip, from Beth, for her grand-daughter. I asked the kids if they would get up for the Saturday morning craft show again, and they both laughed and said yes. They enjoy meeting the other people in the park too!
We were at Colorado River TT over New Years Eve. The park put on a little get together from 8pm to 12:30am, and everyone brought snacks and games. We thought that we would all go down at 8, then I would have Vaughn or Eli run the littles and I back down to the RV around 9. Apparently the park put something similar together last year, but everyone had gone home by 9. I’m afraid that we kept them up this year because we ALL stayed and rang in the New Year. I don’t know that we have ever done that before (or will do it again with the littlest), but it was a lot of fun!
The park bought hats and horns for the kids – I’m sure that they bought them for everyone, but our kids were the only ones that used them…
They were supposed to be for ringing in the New Year, but Miss Maureen handed them out about 11:30, and was quite the instigator! The kids blew those horns just about non-stop until well after 12! We made them take a couple of breaks, and I kept waiting for the other 5 or 6 couples to get disgusted (or headaches) and leave, but no-one seemed to mind. In fact, the kids had a few other people egging them on too! LOL!
The girls sitting on the couch watching the Houston countdown and waiting to pop those champagne poppers…
Everyone lasted until midnight! Even Caleb!!! He lasted JUST until midnight – he was awake as the fireworks (on TV) started, and asleep by the time they were done.
Which we DID help clean up. 🙂
I am so thankful for the staff at Colorado River – they are always so fabulous to my tribe! ‘Course, they are so nice to everyone…
We left Colorado River TT on Wednesday, and are hundreds of miles away now, and we are already missing our favorite catfishing, pecan picking, ping-ponging campground. We WILL be back! (just thought I’d give them ample warning…) 😀
