Our current adventure…

On Friday, we finished our last leg of the fast trip home.
1450 miles in 2 and a half days – not bad for us.  We never choose to move that far that fast, but we wanted to stay and volunteer in Moore for as long as possible.

On the way home, we made lots of stops for all sorts of breaks…fireworks 009We have driven this route so many times that it’s familiar and comforting… fireworks 018Beautiful scenery… fireworks 035ahhh, home turf…    😉 fireworks 050We pulled in late Friday afternoon, and figured that we would head right out to park at one of the firework stands.  We park the 5er at one stand location (the one Dana runs), and Vaughn runs the other one, staying in Greg’s travel trailer.
We  had planned on each of us running the same stands that we had last year, but we got to the location of the one where we wanted to take the 5er, and found that the property had a new owner, and he had trailers parked in the only place that our 40+’ RV fits.  We called him to ask about parking, and he gave Vaughn a raunchy ear-full about the size of our rig.  As our family stood there and talked over what to do, the owner’s son drove in; we recognized his car – he’d been busted for drugs last summer at the campground that we had camphosted at, so we weren’t really thrilled about the company either.  When the kid pulled up, he got out of his car, placed a duffle bag on the trunk, then went into the shop.  A few minutes later, a sedan with 4 girls pulls up next to his car.  A girl gets out of the back, picks up the duffle bag and puts it in the back seat, then goes in to talk to him (I’m sure it was just gym clothes, right?).  When their cars left, they surprisingly weren’t very friendly, and the dark black circles under his eyes gave him away as still a user.
Needless to say, the kids and I aren’t doing that stand location this year! LOL!  Vaughn will run it, with help from some older boys.  I’ll take the stand a few miles away.
So, our latest family adventure begins. peddling gunpowder…fireworks 084Saturday and Sunday we spent the days stocking the stands, getting ready for Monday, the first day that we can sell here in Montana…fireworks 136You can check out our weekend on Beth’s blog – she beat me to it…    😉

Interesting story, I’ve been looking for ways to make a little money when I retire/be a full time RVer/disaster volunteer. Have you seen the news about the flooding in Calgary? Calgary just happens to the the headquarters for Samaritan’s Purse Canada! I’m thinking about heading there to volunteer. Boone, NC is the headquarters for Samaritan’s Purse in the U.S. and I went there to volunteer after an ice storm, and now there is a disaster at the Canadian headquarters. I’ll need to pray for God’s Will concerning this.

    • Hi Michael!
We really enjoy doing fireworks – setting up is a lot of work, then it’s pretty quiet for the first few days, then the last few are so crazy busy! LOL! It’s one of those things that we are so very, very glad that it’s over, but know that we’ll be gung-ho for next year!
I didn’t even think about SP being at the flooding in Canada! That is wonderful that they are right there, and will be doing what they can to help their neighbors! We’ll be praying with you about whether you are to go… xxxooo

  2. Great adventure!!!! Sure miss you guys, and not just the gumbo! We are still sweltering but making some progress. Hugs to you all.

    • awww! We miss you and Dana also!!! I’ve been watching the weather down there, and we miss being there, but not the heat! LOL! In those 2 days driving, we went from running a/c at night, to fuzzy jammies, the furnace, and hot cocoa! LOL! Not sure which we’d pick if we had to! 😉
Glad things are getting done down there – we wished that we could have stayed longer, but it wasn’t for us to – this time… keep us posted!!!
      Miss you both! <3
